Diane Abott Diane Abott, the member of parliament for Hackney North and Stoke Newington. She studied History at Newnham College. Diane became the first black British woman ever elected as member of parliament in 1987.

Prof Adetowun Ogunsheye, Prof Adetowun Ogunsheye, Nigeria's first female professor and the first Nigerian woman to study at Cambridge in 1949 turned 90 on December 5, 2016. Professor Felicia Adetowun Ogunsheye, studied Geography at Newnham College between 1949-1952. She later studied library studies becoming the first female Prof in Nigeria and at the University of Ibadan.
